GitHub is a Git repository hosting service, but it adds many of its own features. While Git is a command line tool, GitHub provides a Web-based graphical interface. It also provides access control and several collaboration features, such as a wikis and basic task management tools for every project.

GitHub Campus Program

NIT Trichy is one of the partners in the GitHub Campus Program. This enables access to a package of premium technical tools for students using the GitHub Student Developer Pack. Among other perks, pre-final year B.Tech and MCA students can now enroll for the GitHub Externship, a fellowship program that includes mentorship, stipend, and more.

GitHub Student Developer Pack

GitHub Student Developer Pack is the most significant set of free tools and services brought to students by GitHub and its partners across the globe to the student at zero cost. From coding boot camps, logging services, code checkers, online IDEs, mass email service. Everything is available to students at no cost. All the available tools and services are listed here.

Procedure to get your Pack

  • Go to GitHub and log in to your GitHub account.
  • Go to your GitHub email settings and add your webmail.
  • Check your webmail and verify the account.
  • Visit GitHub Student Developer Pack and click on the “Get your pack” button and sign in using your GitHub account to avail the pack.

GitHub Externship Program

The GitHub Externship is a 90-day fellowship program for third or pre-final year students of GitHub Campus Partner schools. The initiative provides hands-on learning with practical and on-ground experience that you can put on your resume right away. It's collaborative, remote, and happens under the guidance of expert mentors.
