About the Club

PSI Racing is the official Motorsport Club of NIT-T. We are a team of automobile enthusiasts, working hands-on to build an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) from scratch to compete in BAJA, an Intercollegiate design competition organized by Society of Automotive Engineers INDIA (SAEINDIA). Students from all over India compete in multiple dynamic events such as endurance race, maneuverability course, hill climb, acceleration event and static events such as design, sales, cost event. The team consists of brakes, chassis, suspension & steering and transmission sub-systems and DAQ team.

Events Conducted

PSI Racing conducts Techathlon workshop as a part of INHOTT, Pragyan. It is a workshop intended for the students to know about the club and learn the basics involved in every sub-system. This workshop helps the students during the induction process for the club. We also conduct Automobile Engineering workshop as part of Synergy, the annual symposium of Mechanical Department of NIT-T, where it had seen a footfall of 2011 in 2020.

PSI builds an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) every year from scratch for participating in BAJA, an off-road buggy competition series organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers India (SAEINDIA). PSI is currently embarking on a new journey for the club with the design of the first 4WD prototype. The club design and fabricate our own components and assemblies like the gearbox, wheel assembly, differential, rack and pinion and rotors.

The Data Acquisition team is integral for the team providing priceless data to validate our design and increase accuracy of our computer simulations. The projects by the DAQ team include live telemetry setup for race, live recording of Continuously variable transmission (CVT) speed, collection of shock force and acceleration data using potentiometers, accelerometers, and gyroscopes.

Induction Process

The Induction Process for PSI Racing Club starts during the month of March and comes to an end during the mid of April. The induction process consists of a written test, Panel Interview (usually 2 but subject to changes) and Model/Design presentation round. The written test for core teams consists of physics paper and automobile engineering. The written test for DAQ team consists of basics of electronics, software and automobile engineering.
