The Social Council is a student body that coordinates all the institute’s social activities. We work with the aim of assisting the social clubs in the campus grow, also conducting activities that do not fall under the domain of any of these clubs. Additionally, every year, we organize HumaNITTy, the NIT Trichy initiative of Daan Utsav (Joy of Giving Week).

The major activities of the social council includes HumaNITTy and Social Weekend. HumaNITTy is volunteer-driven, week-long philanthropic initiative, coordinated and organized by the social council, to improve the lives of the less fortunate by engaging in the act of giving. Social Weekend is a day-long cluster of events, workshops, and/or guest lectures based on different social themes. In the academic year 2020-21, the members of the Social Council organized “Gadgets Donation Drive” (to collect and donate used mobile phones, laptops, and tablets to poor children, to help them attend online classes), a guest lecture, “Transcend”, on issues faced by the transgender community, and participated as pannelists representing India in a “Global Virtual Forum on Importance of Volunteering” organized by the Univerity of Technology Mara, Malaysia. A new initiative of the Social Council in the last year was “Insights”, a series of social media posts aimed at providing information and raising awareness regarding vaccinations etc.
