About

Tamil Mandram NIT Tiruchirappalli is the official Tamil Cultural , Literary and Linguistic club of National Institute of technology, Tiruchirappalli.

Tamil Mandram NITT was founded on 1969 and it is the oldest currently existing student club of NIT Trichy and continues to function as one of the most active cultural clubs of NIT Trichy for the past 53 years.

Our motto is “யான் பெற்ற இன்பம் பெறுக இவ்வையகம்”

The meaning of the motto is that we would like to take the divine nectar “Tamil” language and its beauty to the millions and millions of this modern world.

We spread Tamil and it spreads bliss. Tamil language can simply be described as beauty, brevity, bliss. :

We are currently functioning as a team of B.Tech & B.Arch students, who were actively involved in spreading the essence of the classical language Tamil among the college students in general and NITT students in particular.

Our Inductions for 2nd & 3rd year B.Tech & B.Arch students usually fall in the mid of August every year.

Activities

Vidhai & Kadhir

Vidhai and Kadhir are the intracollege Tamil Literary festivals of National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli organized by Tamil Mandram NITT in the odd-semester and the even-semester respectively. Diverse range of Competitions such as creative writing (poetry, essay), elocution, quiz contests on Tamil Literature, Cinema, Aptitude, GK, Dumb Charades, Meme contest and stand-up comedy were conducted along with enlightening guest lectures during these festivals.

Pongal

Tamil Mandram NITT celebrates the traditional tamil harvest festival Pongal in a vibrant manner aiming to imbibe the Tamil culture among the fellow students. With Pattimandram (debate), Folk Arts, Games & Traditional Tamil Feast, along with the entire NITT community of students, faculty and staff coming together in traditional attire in Barn Hall, Pongal Celebrations are one of the flagship events of NITT.

Guest Lectures

Tamil Mandram NITT has hosted an eminent line up of celebrated Tamil personalities such as Poet Muthunilavan (Bharathidasan awardee), Poet Niranjan Bharathi (Great Grandson of Mahakavi Bharathiyar), Poet Nandhalala (Vice President, Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association) , Orator Madhukoor Ramalingam (President, TNPWAA), Writer Soma Veerappan (Tamil Semmal awardee, Kural Inithu ) and Devakottai Ramanathan for the guest lectures .

Online interviews

With online mode becoming the new normal , Tamil Mandram NITT has interviewed eminent Tamil personalities and Cinema artists which include Mrs. Padmini Janaki (CEO , Mind & Mom) , Director Rathnakumar (Director of Meyadha Maan and Aadai films, Writer of Master and Vikram Films) and Actor Abdool lee (Youtuber , 'Temple Monkeys' fame)

  • The Public relations and Media Cell of NIT Trichy, for the translation of the institute press releases.
  • Festember (The national level intercollegiate cultural festival of NIT Trichy) for the conduction of Tamil Lits.

NITTilam - Annual Magazine

Our Annual Magazine NITTilam aims to engage the students diversely with poetry, a wide variety of articles covering tamil literature, technology and cinema, stories, crosswords, reviews and much more.

NITTilam 2021

This 2021 edition edition highlights an article celebrating the memories created with friends and family during the lockdown, a study on theatre and music, a delve into a popular Tamil saying celebrating globalism, and a book review. Short stories, essays, reviews, trivia, riddles, jokes and the like make up the rest of the magazine. Released by Journalist , Poet Mr. Vivek Bharathi.

NITTilam 2020

The highlighted articles of the 2020 edition include an interview from our beloved alumni turned retired professor  Dr.Anantharaman, a recount of life on campus, an article on corona awareness and an examination of the marvel, that is Kallanai!. Released by the celebrated poet Dr. Ezhil Vendhan.

Word of the day/week

              The objective of the initiative is to introduce the equivalent Tamil words of some of the common English words used in our day to day life and help the students to learn new Tamil words every day/week. For the word of the day , Everyday we'll have one poster coming up in the stories of our social media handles with each poster having one english word, equivalent Tamil word, pronunciation of the Tamil word in English , a sentence in tamil having that word , English Translation of the sentence and . related picture for easy correlation. For the word of the week, we'll have a poster coming up on sunday with a set of words and sentences having those words.

Activities 21-22

Bharathi 100 - Kavimurasu

  • As a mark of commemorating the centenary memorial year of the Great Tamil Renaissance Poet and Freedom Fighter Mahakavi Subramaniya Bharathiyar, an honorary ceremony named ‘KAVIMURASU’ was held on 10-09- 2021 (Friday) at 06:00 PM.
  • The event was presided over by the SW Deans. The event saw a wonderful guest lecture on the title ‘Bharathiyum Tamizhum’ from the multifaceted poet, orator, writer, lyricist, scholar, teacher Mr. Niranjan Bharathi , the great grandson of Late. Mahakavi Subramaniya Bharathiyar.

Nammul Bharathi

  • As  part of Bharathi 100, Tamil Mandram NIT Trichy conducted an International Level Poetry competition for college students titled ‘Nammul Bharathi’.
  • The competition received an overwhelming registrations of 246 , from 91 colleges which include 15 colleges from 3 countries outside India.
  • The works were witnessed by Mrs. Parvathy, a renowned poet & lyricist.
  • A total cash prize worth Rs.10000 was distributed to the six winners.

Vidhai 2021

  • Vidhai is the intra-college odd-semester Tamil Literary festival of NIT Trichy
  • Vidhai 2021 , was launched on 28th Oct 2021, had an exciting lineup of 5 events, with submission events spanning the last week of October and the first week of November and live events planned in the first weekend of November.
  • A Tamizh quiz series titled Vina Vidhai 2021 was live on our Instagram Handle stories from 28 th Oct to 5th Nov, with one question live everyday evening, received an active participation of around 500.

Pongal'22 Celebrations

  • Pongal is the harvest festival of Tamilnadu, is also the epitome of Tamil culture and tradition.
  • The NITT Virtual Pongal Celebrations 2022 took place over our exclusive Instagram handle pongalthiruvizha.nitt https://www.instagram.com/pongalthiruvizha.nitt recording a total number of 90 posts and 100+ stories over the days of Jan 10-16, 2022.
  • This second edition of NITT virtual Pongal celebrations saw an exciting lineup of 9 events.
  • The events saw an overwhelming participation from all walks of the NITT student community, right from the UG B.Tech & B.Arch to the PG M.Tech, MBA, MS and PhD students and from the freshers to the final years . Also , the events were not restricted only to the Tamil students.

Pongal'22 Pattimandram

  • NITT Virtual Pongal celebrations 2022 saw an lively pattimandram (debate) in the topic “Are the interest towards festivals increasing or decreasing?” on 16th Jan Sunday from 5.30- 7 PM.
  • The renowned orator, the 2017 best woman state awardee Dr. (Mrs.) Gurugnanambiga, Asst. Prof, Avinashilingam Institiute, Coimbatore graced the pattimandram as judge.
  • The Pongal Sirappu Pattimandram was streamed live in our Youtube channel via streamyard and saw around 850+ views so far.

Management Lessons from Valluvar - Guest Lecture

  • Marking the commencement of the new Thiruvalluvar year 2053, The Tamil Mandram NIT Trichy organised a webinar on 23/01/2022 from 5.30-7 PM on Management lessons from Thirukkural.
  • ‘Tamil Semmal’ ‘Kural Inithu’ Writer Soma. Veerappan took part as the chief guest.
  • The writer pointed out that the Thirukkural's Chapters on Planning, Delegation,Importance of place and Importance of Timing of Decisions are similar to the chapters in today's management books.
  • He observed that Valluvar's sayings are similar to the 'founder of modern management' mangement consultant Peter Drucker and commented that Valluvar is the seniormost management guru of the world.

  • On the occasion of Thiruvalluvar day on 15th Jan & as a prelude to this guest lecture , a quiz & fact series titled ‘Valluvam inidhu’ were live on our Instagram stories everyday. The series covered some unique - unknown facts and interesting questions from Thirukkural. A total of 10 stories were up in this regard and the quiz attracted around 300 participants.

Online Interview - Women's day

  • On the occasion of International Womens’ day on March 8th, Tamil Mandram NITT interviewed Mrs. Padmini Janaki, CEO , Mind and Mom, a fem-tech health start up which received the award for Best health care 2021 from the Government of Tamil Nadu.
  • The interview with Janaki Mam revolved around her early days, the vision and inception of Mind and Mom, the startup struggles, her first book and advice to women.

Porutpaal Seminar

  • Tamil Mandram NIT Trichy in association with DCKAP company organized an online seminar titled 'Porutpaal' with the tagline 'Tamizh Kadalodi Thiraviyam Thedal' on 9th April 2022 from 6-7.30 PM . The seminar aims at discussing the economic scope of the various fields related to Tamil Language.  
  • List of Speakers :
    • Writing : Mr. N. Chokkan – Eminent writer, authored more than 70 books so far.
    • Technology : Mr. Khaleel Jaheer – Android App developer, Founding member of Kaniyam Foundation
    • Digital Media : Ms. Varshini Bahuleyan – Podcaster (This life ticket)

  • 1st place in ‘Oru Kaditham yeluthinen’ (Creative Letter writing) competition, conducted as part of Sangamam, the intercollege cultural festival of KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology (KPRIET) , Coimbatore conducted by the Tamil Mandram of KPRIET, between the dates on Sep'21.
  • 2nd place in ‘Tamil quiz’ competition, conducted as part of Muththamizh Vizha 2022 , The intercollege Tamil Literary Festival of Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Chennai, conducted by the Arignar Anna Tamizh Mandram of VIT Chennai on Feb'22.
  • 1st place in ‘Connexion 2.0’ (Tamil riddle) , on the occasion of World Nature Conservation Day (July'21) ; 1st place in ‘Tamizhodu Vilayaadu’ (Tamil quiz) and 1st & 2nd place in ‘Tamizhsuvai padaippu’ (Creative writing) competitions , on the occasion of World Students Day (Oct'21) conducted by Thendral Tamil Mandram of Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE), Chennai.
  • 3rd place in ‘Kavithai Vaasippu’ (Poetry presentation) competition, conducted by Muththamizh Mandram of Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT) Coimbatore.
  • One of our members, delivered a talk on Astronomy in 5th edtion of Pattarai – an attempt to re-imagine Toastmaster International movement in Tamizh, by Mandram, a Bangalore based linguistic development organisation on 31st July.
