Centre of Excellence in Corrosion and Surface Engineering (CECASE)

Inaugurated in 2012, the Centre aims for excellence in research and consultancy through collaboration with small, medium, and large-scale industries. Keeping in mind the multidisciplinary nature of this Centre, a team of 15 faculty is drawn from almost all departments of the institute, including the Department of Management Studies. Programs offered by the CECASE include an M.S. (by research) and a Ph.D. in corrosion and surface engineering.

Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (CoE-AI)

The Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence at NIT Trichy is focused on interdisciplinary research in Al and attempts to create solutions for crisis management, healthcare, decision support systems, and other areas which have an impact on society. For this purpose, the institute has signed an MoU with NVIDIA, and the Centre has been sanctioned projects by organizations such as the ISRO, Naval Research Board, among others.

ISRO Space Technology Incubation Centre (S-TIC)

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has set up the Space Technology Centre (S-TIC) at NIT Trichy to develop a collaborative industry-academia ecosystem for space technology in India. The Centre contributes towards research and development initiatives to the Indian Space Programme and encourages entrepreneurship among students. The S-TIC will incubate start-ups which will build applications and products that could be used in future space missions, providing valuable opportunities to the student community for developing commercially viable products for space technology.

Equipment Description
3D Metal Printing The dual laser AMPRO SP-500 selective laser melting based 3D metal printing system
Femtosecond Micromachining System The high ablation potential and minimal thermal damage attract the interesting applications of femtosecond lasers. The 40W Femto laser available with us can deliver 350 fs pulses which have tremendous micro-manufacturing scope in multiple industries. The frequency of the beam shall be adjusted between 1 KHz to 800 KHz
Laser Shock Peening System The 3.5 J nanosecond laser is a unique facility for shock peening to improve fatigue properties, preferably turbine components. With lower repetition rates under 10 Hz, the energy levels can reach GW/cm2.
High-Temperature Indentation Tester The high-temperature indentation tester available with the centre is an advanced surface characterization tool that utilizes nano, micro and macro loadings. An integrated In-line 3D imaging profilometer allows us to analyze surface deformation vs Time. A multi-axis force measurement allows running several standard mechanical tests such as Vickers hardness, Rockwell Hardness, Brinell Hardness tests at temperatures up to 500°C.
